Atléti has ‘agreement’ for Luis Suárez with Barcelona
Barcelona’s exodus is about to be Atlético Madrid’s gain.
The club announced on Wednesday it had “reached an agreement” with Barcelona over the transfer of Luis Suárez, subject to a medical.
Financial terms were not disclosed, although The Guardian reported he will sign a two-year contract and the transfer fee will be $6.3 million.
Suárez, 33, has spent the last six years in Barcelona, winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey four times each, along with the Champions League in 2015. He scored 198 goals across all competitions.
But Barcelona has fallen into disrepair recently, thanks in part to the decline of veterans like Suárez. Long past his days as part of the greatest attacking trio the game has ever seen alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, Suárez was nevertheless coveted by Atléti manager Diego Simeone.
To make room for Suárez, Atléti offloaded Alvaro Morata to Juventus on loan Wednesday for the remainder of the season.
