Jazz ambassador Bob Ringwald, father to actress Molly Ringwald, dies at 80

Jazz pianist and music ambassador Robert Ringwald died Aug. 3, his daughter, actress Molly Ringwald confirmed. He was 80.

“Robert Scott Ringwald, identified to most as Bob, and to a fortunate few as Dad and PopPop, died Tuesday,” Molly Ringwald wrote in an obituary posted Saturday in The Sacramento Bee.

No reason behind dying was given.

Born in Roseville, California on Nov. 26, 1940, with imaginative and prescient issues, Ringwald went blind at an early age. He started taking piano classes at 5 and began his first band at 13.

It was the music of Louis Armstrong that impressed her father’s lifelong ardour for the efficiency and preservation of “conventional” New Orleans jazz, Molly Ringwald wrote in her tribute.
